Two young men in their early twenties, Austin Shelby and Henry ‘Woody’ Woodcliff, had somehow lost their way. Living in Albuquerque, petty thieves, neither man had family or hope of becoming anything more than inmates in the county jail. Orlando Ancho had other plans. Working in his family restaurant, going to med-school, Orlando meets the two young men one night when they come to the restaurant for a meal. Immediately Orlando suspects they are living on the street, and may dine and dash. But what Orlando doesn’t expect, is to find a common bond with these men. Being deep in the closet, living with a brother who was a harsh critic of Orlando, and extremely homophobic, Orlando had no intention of coming out. Hiding from intimacy, Orlando led a lonely life. When Austin and Woody, exchange a ‘blood’ vow with him one night, Orlando admits his sexual attraction to the fair-haired Austin, craving his love and touch. But jealousy and violence becomes inevitable, and disaster strikes one of the trio. What had begun as a friendship between three very different men, turns into a journey for this Band of Brothers; blood brothers…who are put to the ultimate test of trust and loyalty.

GA Hauser has once again written a compelling story of gay love in her usual excellent manner. What makes this book very different from the rest of her novels is the dark and dreary conditions it occurs in. Austin, who is 23 and Woody who claims to be 20 have just been released from a brief stay in jail for committing minor crimes. They have no means to support themselves and no place to live, so they end up in an abandoned warehouse full of vagrants and junkies who are filthy and dangerous. They do have each other since they are both gay and had met in jail. In order to survive, they rob unlocked vehicles for any valuables left behind. Meanwhile, Orlando is a 26 year old hispanic gay man who is completely law abiding and totally in the closet as he attends medical school and works during summer vacation at his family's mexican restaurant. He lives in a trailer with an older brother who is a neanderthal, having sex with a different woman every night and making Orlando miserable with his extreme homophobia even though Orlando has not told anyone of his being gay nor has he had any sex, gay or otherwise. Austin and Woody discover an abandoned trailer which they move into and which is in the same trailer park as Orlando's. They first meet when they are waited on by Orlando at his family's restaurant, and then run into each other in the trailer park. Despite their obvious differences, the three become close friends, even blood brothers, and therefore a Band of Brothers. While the three get along fairly well, Orlando and Austin fall in love and Woody starts to show them that he is a sociopath who is happy to break the law anyway he sees fit with no conscience at all. This leads to a tragic incident that causes the story to turn in a new direction. Amazingly, GA's skills create a very emotional love story accompanied by some hot sex and brings the reader around to also love the main characters even in this dark and depressing situation. I do highly recommend this book to any lovers of the gay erotic romance genre and particularly to followers of GA's books unless this type of setting would be too much of a downer for you.

Very upset I thougt I was buying the world war two epic I would not recomend anyone tp buy it. Classic deception.
This is another fabulous story written by Ms Hauser. It has some funny and some sad bits in it but all goes well in the end. I recommend this book and all of G A Hauser's books.
I'm amazed sometimes that g a hauser wrote a book like this, which I found very depressing and uninteresting with unsympathic characters. On the other hand I loved every book in her action series and have just read her latest keeping it up and enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to more books in action series.
Another great novel by GA Hauser. The gritty scene and setting and the trials and struggles of Austin and Woody's survival instantly pulled me in, along with the empathy and softness of Orlando and his family/ cultural struggles. Orlando who is torn between his family and his feelings for his 'new brothers' can be felt and related to by the reader. Austin struggles with his attraction to Orlando, yet exercises his loyalty to Woody, balancing his attention between the two. Though the third wheel crumbles, Hauser unites the remaining two with the heat and affection we all have come to love in her writing.
G.A. Hauser had been recommended to me more than once for I finally picked up one of her books and read it. This book was my choice and I have to say that I liked the premise quite a bit. The dialog was good as was the editing. I didn't dislike the book - it just felt like any of a hundred other m/m romance novels. It didn't stand out for me.

It wasn't a long read by any means that might have been part of what I found disappointing - it went so fast. The boys meet, then there's an attraction, a quick buildup, a tragedy and finally *poof* a happy ending. It didn't read like there was much depth to the book. There as so much that could have been explored in the course of this book that was just glossed over.

As an aside, I was put off by the copyright notice written in red, in a larger font at the beginning of the book. It was jarring, overly curt and the 'nonrefundable' statement almost made me stop right there and return the book. I looked and it appears that all her books start that way - and it's no less startling because of that. I can understand wanting to protect your intellectual property but this is a bit much. Why the large red print?
